There are several Gus's around Memphis. We went to the one in Bartlett, TN instead of the one on Front Street. The positives: The chicken itself is every bit as good as they claim. Crispy, delicious and flavorful outside, juicy inside. Be warned that even the mild version has a fair amount of kick. It may not be the best choice for small children. The negatives: The sides we ordered were mashed potatos, gravy and macaroni and cheese, and all three were an insult to the chicken they were served with. All were bland, flavorless and obviously made from instant. Also, don't go if you are in a hurry. They warn you right up front that they are not a fast food restaurant. They fry it up to order, and it does take longer than you would expect chicken to take. All that said, the chicken was incredible and worth the wait, and I will go back.

Go at 11 if you want immediate lunch seating. It's packed & people waiting by 11:30 every day. Busiest weekday is Friday.
