My family and I had to go to Dallas today for business and as usual, we look for DDD spots to try when we are out and about. We stopped at Louie's today. When we found the restaurant, it was appeared to be closed up and out of business. Truly didn't look like a restaurant from the outside as there aren't but 3-4 parking spaces at the most to be had. We were getting ready to pull out of the parking lot when a family pulled up and walked right in.... we felt like goobers...It was close to 5 pm and the joint didn't open up til 5:30. We asked if we could wait it out til time to open and they were more than eager to let us! We got our menus and our teeth nearly fell out of our head at the prices. I mean, you would think for the price of the food that the joint would look, well, less like a joint...Anyway, the table next to us got their food before us and it looked so good it was all I could do to contain myself to my table. Our food finally arrives and you have never seen 3 happier people! I got the special of the night, which was lamb chops...YUMMY! Hubby got a burger that smelled and looked incredible! Judging by how quickly he devoured it, it truly was incredible. Daughter got a heaping plate of pasta with oil & garlic and ate more than I've ever known her to while eating out. She even was adventurous enough to taste my lamb and LOVED it! She ate one of my chops! It was a wonderful meal! The staff was very friendly! It is a great experience to dine here! Good idea to show up early as it fills up QUICKLY!

Louie's was at one time I'm suspecting a gas station and garage. The atmosphere was nice. Exposed brick walls, high backed wooden booth seats, low lighting and casual. Had a direct view to the kitchen and it was neat to see Chris Canelakes back there cooking. We ordered the special that night which was grilled portabella mushrooms, mulligatawny soup and pizza. The portabellas score a 9 on my foodgasm scale. I could have made a whole meal out of that. The soup was very flavorful, spicy and filling. By the time the pizza came I wasn't as hungry, my tastebuds were a little numb from the beer, and it was hot! I kinda seared my taste buds with the first bite so I didn't get to experience the flavors. The crust is very thin and not rigid so beware if you have a lot of toppings. They want to slide off. I did get a pie to go and this is the first pizza I've had that tasted better the day after. That was some really good day old pizza.

Know Before You Go
Bring cash or your American Express card; Louie's doesn't take anything else.
What to Drink
There are no beers on tap, but there's a full bar and plenty of brews by the bottle, including Newcastle, Pilsner Urquell, Negra Modelo and more.
FourSquare Tips
Our food editor Hanna Raskin says their garlicky Caesar, may set a salad standard.
Best pizza and stiffest drinks
No parking
The exposed-brick walls, rickety chairs and neighborhood regulars create an inviting atmosphere that makes Louie?s a home away from home.
Great food.
If you're looking for a nice quiet evening on a Saturday night. This may be your place. . .if you grew up in a war zone.
Bring cash or an Amex. I'm over it!
I heard Louie's mom makes the desserts! Choc silk pie is my favorite!
Sausage and jalapeño pizza is the best!
Sausage and onion pizza
