I had the brisket gorditas which were great along with the house made chips and salsa.

I have read the tips and could not disagree more. This was the worst mexican food I have ever tasted. It was so bad, my guest and I could not even finish. We paid and left with most of the food on the plate. We also got a margarita and it was the worst one I have ever tasted. I had brisket tacos and they were dry and lacked flavor. I will never recommend or go back to this place.

What to Drink
Avila's offers a notable selection of wines from California, Chile, Argentina, and more, not usually found at Mexican restaurants, all available by the glass.
When to Go
Small and intimate, Avila's has maybe a dozen tables. If you hate lines, get there before 7pm.
FourSquare Tips
The best place to take out-of-towners who wonder what all the fuss is when it comes to Tex-Mex. We recommend the chile relleno. And the brisket tacos. And, well, everything else. [Eater 38 Member]
Guy Fieri, host of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, stopped by Avila's for some classic family comfort food. We like the brisket tacos.
Dallas Observer chose Avila's for Best Mexican Restaurant for Best of Dallas 2010. Not an easy category in Texas- they must be doing something very right.

Best cheese enchilada of my life! Come to the ghetto and have one! :)
If anyone tries to tell you that it's not the same since Ricardo left, they're right. The service is better!
The salsa is so picante (hot) you'll have to get a side of sour cream!
I'm back Wayne. I'm here just to prove you how wrong you are. Avila's is the bees knees pal. You're just a sucka.
This is the best brisket I've ever put in my face. I'm sorry, mom.
Dane's Burritos are DA BOMB!
